Whiskey in the Jar

1) As I was out a-ridin' o'er the far Kilkenny mountain
I met with Capt. Farrel, and his money he was countin'.
I first produced me pistol, and I then produced me rapier,
Sayin' stand and deliver for I am the bold deceiver.

Musha ring a duram da
Wack fol the daddy-o
Wack fol the daddy-o
There's whiskey in the jar.

2) I counted out his money, and it made a pretty penny.
I put it in me pocket and I took it home to Jenny.
She sighed and she swore, that she never would deceive me,
But the devil take the women, for they never can be easy.

3) I went into my chamber, all for to take a slumber,
I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure it was no wonder.
But Jenny took me pistol and she dampened it with water,
Then sent for Capt. Farrel to be ready for the slaughter.

4) 'Twas early in the morning, just before I rose to travel,
The redcoats were around me all and likewise Capt. Farrel.
I first produced me pistol, for she'd stolen away me rapier,
But the damn thing wouldn't fire so a prisoner I was taken.

5) If anyone can aid me, 'tis me brother in the army,
If I can find his station in Cork or in Killarney.
And together we'll go roving through the mountains of Kilkenny ,
And I swear he'll treat me better than me own dear, sporting Jenny

6) Now some take delight in the hunting or the roving,
Others take delight in the gambling and the smoking.
But I take delight in the juice of the barley,
And courting pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early.
